Why Do We Need The Lesbian Business Community?

According to the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce(NGLCC), there are only 370,000 lesbian-owned businesses in the U.S., whichrepresents only 1.3% of U.S. businesses – underrepresenting our community, aslesbians make up an estimated 3-5% of the population.

There are many reasons for the small number of lesbian-owned businesses, including:

  • Lack of access to capital
  • Lack of minority status for federal contracting opportunities
  • Systemic bias

This is exactly why The LBC was started:  to connectlesbian and LGBT-friendly business owners and consumers more readily online andhelp promote companies and build community.
